UNLV is calling for the creation of artwork to honor the victims of the Dec. 6 campus shooting

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV is accepting applications for commissioned artwork honoring the victims of the Dec. 6 tragedy.

The artwork is intended to honor the three victims killed by a gunman who opened fire in Beam Hall last year. The call is open to all UNLV students, faculty, staff and alumni ages 18 and older.

Art can be submitted individually or as a team. Each artist or team is encouraged to submit their CV and examples of previous artwork, particularly large-scale works.

Selected artists or teams will receive $1,500 after signing an agreement with the Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education for the work.

Additional guidelines for the artwork emphasize that victim biographies can be used for reference but must also “support healing, reflection and recovery.”

The Memorial Committee will accept applications until Wednesday, October 23rd. The artworks selected for the memorial will be placed on six columns at the entrance to Beam Hall in November.
