WATCH: CBS cuts off Vance's microphone during immigration fact check

Sen. JD Vance's microphone was turned off during Tuesday's vice presidential debate after he declined fact-checking by moderators on immigration policy.

CBS reporter Margaret Brennan reviewed Vance's previous statements about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, and found that there are a large number of migrants with legal status in the city.

“Since you are checking on me, I think it is important to say what is actually going on,” Vance said, before launching into an explanation of the CBP One app, which allows migrants to schedule appointments at a port of entry, which could give them parole be allowed into the country.

The moderators tried to control the debate, but Vance's opponent, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, also tried to intervene. Ultimately, Brennan told both candidates that their microphones had been cut off, per a ground rule set before the debate, so they could move on to other topics.

A little more than a month before Election Day, Vance and Walz met on October 1 for their first and only vice presidential debate, hosted by CBS in New York.
