The Caldwell Parish Police Jury presents plans for the Hurricane Creek Clean Out Project

CALDWELL PARISH, La. (KNOE) – The Caldwell Parish Police Jury has unveiled its plans for a Hurricane Creek Clean Out project.

The police jury says the stream has not been cleaned since the 1980s and has flooded the area, causing damage to residents' homes. The creek also caused flood damage at Caldwell Parish High School.

Caldwell Parish Police Jury President Mark Black says they are using funds from a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant. The cost of the project is estimated at around $1.7 million.

“We have some pretty serious flooding along the creek. There are fifty to seventy homes affected and we hope this project will reduce the risk of flooding for residents.”

Phase one of the project is expected to begin in January 2025.
