Tuta launches standalone, quantum-safe, encrypted calendar app for Android and iOS

Tuta (formerly known as Tutanota) is a fantastic open source encrypted email service as an alternative to Gmail and other major technology services.

While they may not offer a product line like Proton, they have been doing some interesting work under the hood to make the encryption of their products resistant to quantum computing.

Tuta claims to be one of the first services to have a quantum-safe email service that also includes an encrypted calendar platform.

Now they've made their offering more flexible by making the calendar service available as standalone mobile apps for Android and iOS.

Encrypted calendar app for mobile phones

With a separate calendar app for mobile, Tuta users can now easily organize their calendar events on the go.

Not just limited to existing Tuta users. However, if you've always wanted an encrypted, open-source calendar app that keeps your event data private, you can simply sign up for an account and get started.

Of course the postal service is a bonus. I tried it on my Android device and it's a pretty straightforward experience:

You can use the service for free (with a calendar limit) or take out a subscription to create more calendars and unlock more storage space for Tuta-Mail.

If you choose the Unlimited (Business) plan, you can leverage your branding with the calendar and email app on mobile and web.

With the obvious benefit of all your calendar data being encrypted, the apps also allow you to:

  • Sync with external calendars
  • Import the .ics file

Like any other calendar service, you can add guests to the events you create (You will be invited via your Tuta email account) and add reminders/notes/repeat instructions along with date/time.

You can also share your calendar with another user.

I don't have a subscription at the moment. Therefore I have not tested all functions.

But it looks like a straightforward interface that lets you focus on the calendar and your events.

You can get it on Google Play Store and App Store.
